Cholera-affected countries worldwide

Cholera-affected countries worldwide
Estimates of the World Health Organisation (W.H.O.) report 3 to 5 million people affected by cholera and 100 000 to 200 000 deaths each year worldwide.

Cholera epidemics
are reemerging worldwide since the last decade, mainly due to:
  • Rapid urbanization of many cities in developing countries, where water and sanitation infrastructures and hygiene quality do not evolve accordingly; and
  • Profound environmental changes such as global warming, who plays a role in the proliferation of the bacteria in the environment (Source: Cholera and Climate change : a demonstrated relationship, Constantin de Magny G., Colwell R., 2009).
